This video outlines how to paddle a surfboard.

Surf Lessons South Australia offer excellent advice on how to paddle a surf board.

Here are a few tips.

00:00:15 - Paddle to catch the wave

The next thing we gonna do from here is we need to paddle to catch a wave.

00:00:19 - When paddling

Now when we’re paddling, what we want to do is we want to be travelling around about the same speed as wave when it’s coming through.

00:00:24 - If you’re going too slow

If you’re going too slow, the waves going to push passed us and if we frantically paddling in front, we are going to use a lot of energy just in front of the waves. So ideally, you just want to start speeding up like a car, we wanted to start from first, second, third gear and away we in fourth okay?

00:00:40 - The technique

So what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna start paddling to catch that wave. So you have to start paddling. So you start slowly, remember you want nice big strokes in the water. And when you look over your shoulder and the waves are getting closer, so you pedal a little bit harder, 2nd gear. Have a look again it’s right by us now, 3rd gear. and it’s right behind us 1, 2, 3

00:00:55 - Standing up

And it’s right behind us 1, 2, 3 hands on the rail. So want your hands right under your chest, toes curled over onto the tower of the board. We want to arch our back and up and away we go.
