horse drawn trams in Granite Island

Theere are alot of things to do Victor Harbor like the Horse Drawn Trams is considered as South Australian's icon and have been transporting visitors to Granite Island for over 120 years.

As the only horse drawn tramway operating in Australia, it is supremely popular with over 135,000 visitors annually enjoying this experience (statistic: SA Tourism). Incredibly, it has carried more than 2 million passengers since 1986!

The Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Trams use a team of Clydesdale horses on a rotational basis with the two-storey heritage trams accommodating approximately 50 passengers. Each horse works only 2 shifts a week with the trams running on roller bearings to make it easy work for them to haul the trams across the 630-metre wooden causeway to Granite Island.

The journey takes a leisurely 15-20 minutes and passengers can enjoy countless views of the mainland, Victor Harbor and Granite Island. The trams transport serves as a unique attraction in the list of things to do with kids in Granite Island.

Where is it located

The Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram is situated at the start of the causeway next to the Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centre, opposite Warland Reserve. Tickets for the Victor Harbor Horse Drawn Tram can be purchased at the Victor Harbor Visitor Information Centre or from the conductors on the tram.

Victor Harbor tram times

The trams operate 7 days a week, every day of the year (except Christmas Day) on an hourly timetable. The daily service is the only all-year operation of its kind in the world and the only recognized horse drawn tram service in the Southern Hemisphere operating on a continual basis.

During School Holiday periods, extra tram services may run with trams departing half hourly. Check the clock at the mainland terminal for the next departing tram.
