Why You Don’t Need to Be a Surf Pro to Have a Blast in the Water
16 March, 2026

Here’s why you should stop worrying about your "pro" status and just get amongst it.
1. You don’t need to paddle out the back into the "green" waves to have a great time. Catching the broken waves (the white wash) closer to shore is actually some of the most fun you can have. It’s easier to balance, you get longer rides while you’re learning, and if you fall off? No dramas—the sand is right there.
2. Surfing is one of the few sports where the person having the most fun is the winner. Whether you’re standing up for two seconds or just body-boarding, that feeling of being pushed by the ocean is a natural high. We call it "the froth" for a reason—it’s pure, fun.
3. Forget the HIIT class at the local gym. Paddling around for an hour is a "sneaky" workout that hits your arms, back, and core. The best part? You’re so distracted by the salt spray and the chance of spotting a dolphin that you don't even notice you're burning calories.
4. Sure, some breaks have a bit of "localism," but most Aussie beaches are filled with people just like you—weekend warriors who are just happy to be out of the office. As long as you’re smiling and following basic etiquette (don't drop in on someone!), you’ll find most people are happy to have a yarn in the lineup.
Why not head to a beach with Surf & Sun for a surf lesson? We will show you an awesome time.
