Where to Take Your Children for Surfing Lessons and Classes

kids surfing lessons in Adelaide

Here at Surf and Sun, children are encouraged to join in on the fun! We offer a range of kids class options for children aged 5 years or older including; Group Surf Lessons, Private Lessons, Family Packs, Birthday Parties, and the Surf Groms Program.

Throughout each of these programs, we provide children with knowledge of surf safety and ocean awareness. Most importantly we aim to increase the children’s water confidence and ensure they have a great time surfing! This is completed by our surf coaches spending quality time with the children, whilst demonstrating patience, encouragement and passing along their knowledge. All of our surf coaches have a genuine love for the ocean and desire to see our clients succeed.

In particular, the Surf Groms Program is a great way to introduce your child to the sport of surfing. The program is progressive, with five different log book levels to be passed over the 4-5 program. Surf Groms also has a major focus on fun! With the lessons involving team games, surfing tricks and more. The children get to meet new people their age who are also learning to surf as well as receive a gift bag with Surf Groms apparel.

Although I believe surfing is a sport that can be enjoyed right throughout life, I also understand that the earlier surfing is started, the better the surfer you become. Children are fast learners and can listen and adapt their surfing style much faster then adults. This allows for a faster progression rate. Surfing is also a great way to keep them and their friends out of trouble!

This is why I highly recommend our children’s exciting surf lessons and classes to all potential grommets.

Learning to surf as a child can be a fantastic gateway into a future involving the ocean. I personally had my first surfing lesson with Surf and Sun when I was ten years old in 2007 and still remember the thrill and excitement of standing up for the first time! Now I am 19 years old and have been working as a qualified surf instructor on the Surf and Sun team for four years.

Thanks to Surf and Sun introducing me to this amazing sport and lessons of surfing, I have fallen in love with the ocean and gained some incredible experience. I have been involved in a range of surfing competitions throughout the years, with some highlights including being the South Australian Open Long Board Women’s Champion in 2014 and 2015, as well as coming 2nd in the U18 Allstar division at the Junior National Titles in Kiama, 2013.

Surfing is also a great sport for travelling. Australia has many incredible beaches that I have been lucky enough to visit. Through surfing, I have travelled to all of Australia's states competing and training for surfing, as well as on surf holidays. Surf holidays have also allowed me to experience overseas travel with adventures in both Bali and Hawaii. These childhood experiences will be remembered for life and I plan on giving my future children the same experiences.

I feel very privileged to have gained and experienced so much through surfing and feel surf coaching is a fantastic way to give back to the surfing community that raised me.
